LED Lighting of Philips Helps half of Paris Metro Energy Use

Royal Philips Electronics was awarded multi-year contract in partnership with the French professional lighting company Passage to illuminate the metro system in Paris with LED lighting solutions.


The switch to LEDs will reduce the energy needed to illuminate the Paris Metro and RER suburban stations by more than 50%, while improving the quality of light at the same time. The contract was awarded by the Parisian transport company Groupe RATP for more than 85% of the lighting in the metro and RER stations in the French capital.

The offer is to replace about 250,000 light 302 points in the RATP metro stations and 66 RER station with LED lighting.

RATP aims to reduce its energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by 15% from 2004 to 2020.? Energy-saving LED lighting from Philips and Step will help meet those goals. Bulk electricity stations RATP is consumed represents approximately 12% of its total energy consumption.
